Debbie Miller
Artist's statement and bio
"I always prefer to paint from life. I believe it to be the ultimate in representational art because it is about real experience.. When you paint from life, the subject, the environment and you interact as one together."
As a plein air painter Debbie Miller enjoys the challenge of painting out of doors. The art she creates on location or in the studio is about the beauty of a moment held in memory.
An avid gardener as well, she finds the colors and shapes of flowers and blooming shrubs exciting to explore artistically.
A strong composition and the principles of impressionism, the effect of light on color, are the ultimate goal.
Debbie earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University. Since that time she has studied at the Corcoran School of Art, and with many established artists.
She is a member of Montgomery Art Association, Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters, Miniature Painters Sculptors and Gravers Society and Cider Painters of America.
Her love affair with painting is well expressed by her words: "I am constantly inspired by the beauty of this world, each moment is precious, infused with feeling and worthy of recording. I paint the moment. The instant a subject captures my attention; it is etched in my mind."
"There is something quite captivating about painting out-of-doors. The challenges and delights of standing in nature abound. Once the easel is set up, and the painting begins, it is as if time stands still. I also gain a greater sense of my connection to that which is greater than me, our creator."
